Fire Safety Training

Marshals are trained to respond quickly and effectively in the event of a fire, whether it’s caused by a crash or mechanical failure. This training includes understanding the types of fire extinguishers available, knowing how to use them properly, and recognizing the different classes of fires that may occur in a racing environment.
In addition to using extinguishers, marshals learn evacuation procedures and how to secure the area to prevent further accidents. They are also taught to assess the situation to determine if additional emergency services are needed. Fire safety training not only equips marshals with the skills to handle emergencies but also instils confidence in riders and spectators that their safety is a top priority during events.
Flag Marshal Training

Marshals are trained to use a variety of flags, each with specific meanings that help maintain safety on the track. For instance, the yellow flag indicates a hazard on the course, signaling riders to slow down and be prepared to take evasive action. The red flag, on the other hand, signifies that the race has been stopped, requiring all riders to slow down and return to the paddocks or be held at a post.
Marshals must also be familiar with other flags, such as the blue flag, which warns slower riders of faster competitors approaching, and the checkered flag, which indicates the end of the race. Effective flag communication ensures that all participants are aware of track conditions and potential dangers.
Radio Marshal Training

This training equips marshals with the skills to operate two-way radios, enabling them to relay important information quickly and accurately during races. Marshals learn the protocols for clear communication, including the use of standardized phrases and codes to avoid confusion, especially in high-pressure situations.
Effective radio communication allows marshals to report incidents, track the status of riders, and coordinate responses to emergencies in real time. They are trained to maintain a calm and professional demeanour while using the radio, ensuring that messages are concise and relevant. Additionally, marshals practice listening skills to ensure they can respond promptly to instructions from race control.
Recovery Marshal Training

Motorcycle marshalling includes crucial recovery van training, which prepares marshals to handle situations involving disabled or crashed motorcycles on the track. This training emphasizes the safe and efficient recovery of bikes while minimizing disruption to the race and ensuring the safety of all participants. Marshals learn how to operate recovery vehicles, including understanding the specific equipment needed for lifting and transporting motorcycles without causing further damage.
Additionally, recovery van training covers the protocols for assessing the situation at the scene of an incident. Marshals are taught to prioritize safety by securing the area and communicating effectively with race control and other marshals.
Motorcycle First Aid Training

Motorcycle marshalling includes vital first aid training, which equips marshals with the skills to provide immediate medical assistance in the event of an accident. This training covers essential first aid techniques, such as CPR, wound care, and how to recognize and respond to various injuries that may occur during races. Marshals learn to assess the situation quickly and prioritize care based on the severity of injuries, ensuring that they can act swiftly and effectively.
In addition to hands-on skills, first aid training emphasizes the importance of clear communication with medical personnel and race control. Marshals are taught how to relay critical information about the injured rider's condition and the specifics of the incident, facilitating a coordinated response from emergency services.
Mental Health Training

Motorcycle marshalling includes essential mental health training, which helps marshals understand the psychological aspects of racing incidents and the impact they can have on both riders and spectators. This training focuses on recognizing signs of stress, anxiety, or trauma in individuals involved in accidents, as well as in fellow marshals. Marshals learn effective communication techniques to provide support and reassurance to those affected, fostering a safe and understanding environment.
Additionally, mental health training emphasizes the importance of self-care for marshals, as they may experience emotional strain from witnessing accidents or dealing with high-pressure situations. Training includes strategies for managing stress, seeking support when needed, and promoting overall mental well-being.
